Create a slide show

Slideshows are like Powerpoint presentations without the Powerpoint.  This means you present spelling lists to classes on any computer you have to hand, whatever software happens to be installed on it.

Transition between slides

Manually move between slides.
Automatically move onto the next slide after seconds.

Blank slides

Insert a blank slide in between each word.

Word list

Separate words by entering one per line.  It is possible to enter small sentences on each line.

Information

Lost for words?  Then why not browse our word lists?  Just select the words you want and Worksheet Genius will fill this page in for you.

Inspiration

Here are some ideas for using slideshows with interactive whiteboards.

  • Improve your children’s phonic knowledge.  Use these slideshows to browse through words with similar spelling patterns with your class.  Get your students to focus on what stays the same, and what is different each time.  If you’re stuck for words, you can always use our word lists.
  • Improve your children’s visual spelling.  Using the options above, set a timer going every fifteen seconds and select the option to insert a blank slide between each word.  Now arm your children with mini-whiteboards: when the first word appears on screen, the children commit it to memory; when it disappears, they attempt to write it on their whiteboards.  Repeat until their brains melt.
  • Improve your children’s writing speed.  Enter several short sentences in the word list box - each one on a separate line.  Now set the timer going every thirty seconds, and make sure your students have their pencil and paper ready.  As each sentence appears, the children attempt to copy it exactly, mirroring spelling and punctuation.  They will only have 30 seconds for each sentence, so speed is of the essence.  This activity encourages students to commit common words to memory, and helps younger children move away from copying words one letter at a time.
